When we are asked what it is that we love so much about what we do, our answer is always, “We get to meet so many amazing people and be with them through such an important time in their lives.” We shoot mostly weddings but sometimes the wedding day is just the start.
In 2008, Justin and I photographed Barrett and Elizabeth’s wedding. They lived in Texas at the time and we walked into the church on their wedding day having never met them, which is out of the ordinary for us. I can’t even put into words how welcoming and warm these people were, the couple, the families, the entire wedding party. We immediately were made to feel like we were a part of the group, not just the hired photographers. Beautiful wedding, amazing couple, greatest group of friends and family. As if that weren’t enough….
Their Best Man and Matron of Honor were Bill and Shannon.
Several months later, we hear from Shannon in Texas. They were coming to Little Rock for her Grandmother Honey’s 90th birthday and wanted us to take pictures of their 15 month old son, Zach. He’s the same age as our Gabriel. Animated, red headed, gorgeous little boy. I fell right in love. We photographed Honey’s birthday party too. We got to know them a little better, along with Shannon’s sister, Kathleen who might just be the world’s best sister and aunt.
We have continued with yearly sessions of Zach when they come into town to visit family. Last year, when we met for Zach’s session, Shannon was pregnant with a baby girl. We were so excited for them. Zach is so adorable and a new baby means that much more sweetness in this family.
Little did we know that the baby girl that Shannon was carrying would be the sweetest little dollbaby, magical even. Baby Cate was born early and had Down Syndrome. They were in and out of the hospital a lot at first, but little Cate is tough. This past summer, they came into Little Rock for the 4th of July and I drove down to see this sweet girl and her handsome big brother. LOVE at first sight.
Here are a few from our session.
In November, this family is participating in the 2011 Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas Buddy Walk and are only $400 short of meeting their goal of $2,500. To donate any amount, great or small, click here.
